Langen Packaging Group's Robotic VENTO™ End Load Cartoner Machine Cartons Coins from the U.S. Mint

 
 

The VENTO™ end load cartoning system, developed by Langen Packaging Group, is an industry proven end load cartoner for small to medium cartons. The Langen VENTO™ system seen in this video is used to load coin sets for the U.S. Mint. It is a robotically automated system that utilizes two FANUC M-420iA Robots at the infeed of the system, and one FANUC R-2000iB/100H palletizing robot at the end of the system.

Once the manual set-up of the operation is complete, coin Proof Sets are loaded into the system, and validated through bar code ID verification at the robotic pick station to assure the proper lenses are in place. The two FANUC M-420iA Robots lower and pick groups of coin Proof Sets then transfer them to the machine vision verification station. The robots then place the coin Proof Sets into the flights of the cartoner. Proof Sets are placed face up onto their Certificate of Authenticity. In the event that a reject is detected, the Proof Set will be rejected.

The Certificates of Authenticity and Proof Sets are then conveyed to the cartoning system, where carton blanks are drawn from the carton blank magazine into the cartoner, formed and placed into conveyor flights. A bar code reader verifies that the proper carton has been placed. The major flaps are held open with guide rails and the open carton advances to the loading area.

Filled article buckets are positioned in the empty cartons and lenses and leaflet are transferred from the article bucket into the erected carton through the glue end. Hot melt adhesive is applied, from the Nordson Hot Melt system to the flaps, which are then folded down.  The major flaps are ploughed closed and sealed as the carton transfers through. Sealed cartons are then transferred from the cartoner to the case pack station.

Upon arrival at the case pack station, the cartons are stacked intwo columns. Once the proper number of cartons are accumulated, they are cross-pushed into a case. The filled cases are then transferred through a sealing station and labeled by a printer applicator. Finally, the cases are presented to a bar code scanner for verification and then to the infeed of the R-2000iA/100H robotic palletizing station. The R-2000iA Robot picks and places the cases onto the pallet in the proper pallet pattern. Upon completion of the pallet the robot signals the operator to remove the full load.
